T'was the Night Before Deadlines

T'was the Night Before Deadlines, when all through the land,
Keyboards were clacking, the hour at hand.
The essays were typed on the computer with care,
In hopes that Acceptance Letters soon would be there.

The teens were all typing, with occasional sighs,
While battling the urge to just shut their eyes.
And I with my energy drink, and cat in my lap,
Had just braced my brain for the long night's last lap.

When from my phone there arose such a clatter,
I grabbed for it, heart pounding, to check on the matter.
Notifications were buzzing, they came in a flash,
I swiped and I tapped, through the digital mash.

The screen lit up brightly, casting a glow,
A Zoom call was ringing, the sound soft and low,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Admit Nick's warm smile, saying “'Don't fear!”

On the screen he appeared, not a pixel astray,
"Welcome!" he beamed, "Let's not delay.
We'll conquer this list, make each essay a flame,”
And he sorted my supplements, and called them by name:

"Now, Harvard! now, Brown! now, Penn and Tulane!
On, Stanford! on, Bard! on, Duke and Duquesne!
Let's tackle these prompts, they shall not appall!
Now type away! Write away! Submit away all!"

In the world of admissions, where some choose to scheme,
Admit Nick was a beacon, his ethics supreme.
"No rowing façades or Photoshop ruse,
We'll get you in fair, no need for the blues!"

He spruced up each paragraph, each sentence, each line,
With comments and edits both tactful and fine;
Once all was in order, he turned with a jerk,
Not a word did he speak, as he finished his work.

He glanced at the screen, gave a confident flick,
And with a wave and a smile, he exited the click.
"Your applications are ready, with no cause for dismissal,
Now go forth and submit, like the launch of a missile."

But I heard him exclaim, ere he vanished from sight—
"Happy Deadlines to all, and to all a good write!"

Happy holidays, everyone!
