Maggie Montague

Boredom is a blessing. This unconventional parenting philosophy left Maggie Montague bereft of the usual electronic babysitters, so she turned to staring at her walls, which fortunately were covered in books. Over the years, Maggie’s love of reading (along with a name seemingly straight out of a Shakespeare play) lured her into a career devoted to the craft of writing.

Over the past seven years, Maggie studied the art of writing, first receiving her bachelor’s degree in English from Whitworth University and later her MFA in creative nonfiction from West Virginia University. Along the way, Maggie has served as a writing instructor for 250 students and counting. She empowers students to write with clarity and heart.

In addition to working on her first novel, Maggie writes creative nonfiction essays, fictional short stories, and freelance articles. She is also helping an incarcerated writer - whom she met through the Appalachian Prisoner Project - create and edit his memoir. Regardless of your background, Maggie would love to help you tell your unique story and to achieve your goal of getting in. She doesn’t expect that you will find writing as fascinating as she does, but she will do her best to share her love of literature and the written word.
