Passport Admissions aims to be the best full-service admissions advising company on the planet.  We help students with personality take ownership of the admissions process, get into the schools of their dreams and prepare for a successful career. You will work directly with Passport Founder Rob Humbracht and a team of two others who help run the day-to-day aspects of the business.

We’re hiring a Director of Marketing and Customer Champion.  The position involves communicating with students - and prospective students - to spread awareness of our services while helping to ensure that our service is remarkable.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Executing marketing campaigns through email, webinars, and social media.

  2. Developing new marketing campaigns through existing and potentially new media.

  3. Answering phone calls and emails from customers and potential customers, responding directly where possible or directing them to the appropriate person.

  4. Using cloud-based marketing software to automate marketing wherever possible.

  5. Outsourcing to a graphic designer and video processor to develop marketing collateral and videos as needed (unless you happen to be skilled in such tasks…)

  6. Helping create, update, and format blog content and web pages.

  7. Managing event attendance for online and offline events, including reminder calls in advance of the event and followup communication afterward.

  • Work from home.  This is a blessing and a curse, but for the right person (a “doer” who doesn’t need the confines of a typical office to get things done), this is a major perk. The only in-person requirement of the job is the annual team meeting, with dates TBD (but the plan is to fly you to San Diego for a week in January or February)

  • Flexible hours.  The job requires that 50-60% of the time be during business hours on the West Coast (9am-5pm PST) in order to respond promptly to customers.  But the other hours are flexible and can be worked mornings, evenings, weekends, or whenever.

  • Long-term development.  Passport is a growing company, and there are regular opportunities to expand your skill set, try new tasks and projects, and otherwise build your resume.

  • Low-key culture.  We don’t believe in the usual workplace BS.  We keep meetings to a minimum and get management out of the way so that the team can do its work.

  • Choose your title. You get to choose your job title.  You can be the Supreme Commander of Marketing for all we care!

  • Pay starts at $35,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Comfort with new technology (Hubspot, Squarespace, Drip, etc.)

  • Very good written communication skills (able to craft effective prose; we’re an education company, after all)

  • Prompt communication skills

  • Ability to work with limited oversight

  • Honesty

  • Enthusiasm for life

  • Pluses: marketing experience, customer service experience, basic html knowledge

Seeking a talented editor

Do you want:

Passport Admissions, a small company that helps students apply to college and graduate school, is hiring editors.  We’re looking for English majors, staunch grammarians, and word wizards who love to help students with the most personal essays they’ve ever written.  It’s a rewarding but demanding job.

Are you:

1. an exceptionally good writer and editor

2. able to work independently with minimal supervision

3. reliable and prompt with email responses?

Then, we’re looking for you.

Founded in 2007, Passport Admissions is a young company that provides support for its students throughout the admissions process, everything from picking schools to writing essays to preparing for interviews.  You will join a small band of passionate people who work together to help students one-on-one and over the internet to edit their essays for the admissions process.

Job perks:

  • 10-20 hours/week – some afternoon/evening/weekend work required, but you can set your own schedule for number of hours and on which days

  • Job is seasonal. Preferred dates will be January  – August.

  • Work out of your choice of coffee house/office space

  • Excellent learning opportunity - work with owner/operator to develop your strengths as a writer/editor and to learn the skills needed to succeed in business

  • Work with bright, energetic students bound for college/graduate school

  • Wear comfortable attire to work

  • Pay ranges between $18-$23 an hour

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • College degree or current enrollment in College

  • High level of motivation to help students achieve their dreams

  • A thorough commitment to organization and an ability to work independently

  • Expert fluency in English grammar and style

  • Promptness in returning phone calls and emails

  • Interest in learning about the college or graduate school admissions process (previous knowledge of that process is not required, though definitely a plus)

About us:

We believe that the admissions process is inherently unfair and that the vast amount of information put out by different schools makes the process disorienting.  Passport works to spread good information to the community about the admissions process, while working to get its clients into great schools.

Owner/operator Rob Humbracht has worked in the standardized test/admissions field for over 15 years.  He regularly presents at high schools around San Diego and for student groups at UCSD, SDSU, and USD. Passport is a small but growing company, and this position will be an incredible opportunity for the right person.
