Ali Murtha, Passport Admissions Advisor

Ali Murtha

  • Advisor for students applying to Residency

Over the past ten years of working in Graduate Medical Education, Ali has reviewed thousands of applications from future physicians and interviewed several hundred more.  She has personally counseled dozens through application, interview and selection processes and works closely with physicians who interview as part of UCSD's School of Medicine Admissions Committee. She has developed an expertise in mutually-beneficial GME recruitment and has presented nationally on the topic.

Ali was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA and, if ever you forget this fact, her accent will quickly remind you. She studied Communications at West Chester University of Pennsylvania before landing in Graduate Medical Education Management at Thomas Jefferson University. Six years ago, UCSD asked her to join them as a GME Program Manager in the Department of Pathology, so she packed her bags and moved across the country.

Had she not discovered the exciting world of Graduate Medical Education, Ali would have become a psychologist. She thoroughly enjoys getting to know people, engaging in spirited discourse and contemplating the human condition. It is this philosophical bent that she brings to her work with students at Passport Admissions.  Yes, she will show you how to get in, but she will also push you to know yourself better and figure out what makes you stand out.

Ali is passionate about using her years of experience to help deserving and brilliant minds enter a field that will allow them to make a great difference in the world.

When she is not contemplating existence, you can find her on the side of a mountain or in Balboa Park.
