A Southern California native, Laura chose to stay close to the surf and sand of San Diego and attend UCSD, where she majored in Economics and minored in Biology, Chemistry and Philosophy (what else do you do with all those science classes after three years on the pre-med track?). Wanting the “whole” college experience and believing that meant going Greek (it doesn’t), Laura joined the sisterhood of Pi Beta Phi sorority. It was at one of their socials that she met and fell in love with her husband, Phil. Getting married and moving to the Bay Area shortly after graduation so Phil could attend law school, Laura found her first “real” job in San Francisco as a Financial Analyst. It was here that Laura’s obsession with all things spreadsheets began.
After having their first daughter, Laura happily left a promising career to become CEO of the Tencer household. An additional two daughters, countless soccer games, track meets, and dance recitals later (each with a spreadsheet to stay organized!), only the youngest remains in the nest.
Having successfully survived the college application process twice with only a few additional grey hairs, Laura is now the proud mom of not one, but two CALifornia Bears. Drawing from her personal experience, Laura is here at Passport Admissions to help keep a smile on your face as we navigate you smoothly through the arduous application process. In her free time, which she actually has some of now, Laura enjoys traveling, going to concerts, hiking, paddle boarding, snow skiing and wake boarding.
