Nathan Lorentz

  • Advisor for students applying to medical school

  • Accepted to: Cornell, Columbia, Vanderbilt, Washington University, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UCLA, George Washington, Washington State University, NYU

Nathan claims so many cultural influences that it will make your head spin. Don’t believe us? He was born in Thailand to a Thai mother and Swedish-American father. He spent high school in Japan before playing baseball for the Thai national team, which took him to tournaments in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea. He’s volunteered on the Thai-Myanmar border and in week-long stints in Nicaragua, Honduras and Ghana. He even spent a year playing and teaching baseball in the Dominican Republic. Oh, and he attended college in three US states. Got all that?

Once he realized that his baseball career was winding down, Nathan found that his interest in service and science led him to a career in medicine. No stranger to interesting stories himself, Nathan was drawn to connecting with people from different backgrounds, both through his work with the homeless in San Diego’s Urban Street Angels and through training mentally and physically disabled clients.

Nathan would love to help you tell your story, whatever that may be. Nathan knows that you don’t have to volunteer on three continents to get in, but he can help you build a compelling application by helping to craft the stories you can use in your essays and interviews.

When not hitting the books, Nathan can be found playing baseball or at the beach, usually accompanied by his golden retriever puppy, also a strong swimmer but whose surfing skills remain a work in progress.
