- Editor for students applying to medical school
Storytelling nestled in Jackie’s heart at a young age, when she found entertainment in her local Massachusetts library after her mother refused to have television in the house. Although this pop-culture education gap makes Jackie a horrible trivia participant, this formative time revealed to her the imagination of writing and reading. After falling under the influence of a 20th-century-Egyptology-and-murder-mystery book series, Jackie almost went to college for archaeology, but luckily changed her mind to writing after taking a journalism class her high school senior year. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2010 with bachelor’s degrees in English/journalism and European culture studies, with a minor in Italian.
The allure of foreign lands never left her imagination, though, and after many years working professionally as an editor for publishing companies and international news organizations, she hopped on a Caribbean sailboat in 2015 and started writing her own travel-focused stories. She is lucky to have explored more than 35 countries, sailed 14,000 nautical miles, and lived in Italy, Colombia, Mexico and New Zealand.
When Jackie isn’t writing or traveling, she loves running, hiking, rock climbing and doing yoga, and she is an avid dancer of salsa and blues. She is always learning something new, and her current topics include Spanish, Portuguese and podcasting. She looks forward to helping you craft your own stories into jaw-dropping essays that will help springboard you into your next chapter of learning.
