Claire Petretti Marti

  • Editor for students applying to medical school

Claire Marti started writing stories as soon as she was old enough to pick up pencil and paper. She grew up spending summers in France, where her father was born and raised, so travel is in her blood. She’s fraternized with koalas in Australia, lived in Kenya, explored most of Europe, and led yoga retreats to Mexico and Bali. After graduating from the University of Virginia with a BA in English Literature and French, she moved to sunny San Diego and attended University of San Diego law school. After practicing civil litigation for a few years, Claire realized she preferred to employ her talents in more creative and less contentious ways.

The next decade included a plethora of careers, including selling legal research software, teaching the LSAT prep course for Princeton Review, managing a non-profit animal rescue for a Hollywood actress, and teaching as an Associate Professor in the Kinesiology department at MiraCosta College.

In 2009, Claire exited the corporate world to write and teach full-time. In 2010, she was manifesting her dreams: teaching yoga and publishing numerous articles on health and wellness, yoga, and animal related issues. Everything changed overnight when she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. She used yoga to navigate through a tough year and published a memoir, Come Ride with Me Along the Big C, based upon the popular blog she wrote throughout treatment. Compelled to help others, she co-created the largest yoga fundraiser in Southern California with City of Hope, where she organized, emceed, and taught yoga to 800 yogis on center field at Petco Park.

In her role as an Associate Professor at MiraCosta College, she taught aspiring yoga teachers yogic philosophy and history. An enormous portion of her class focused upon guiding students to find their authentic voice and express it clearly and concisely onto the page. Claire believes excellent writing comes from a combination of honest personal expression and discipline. Currently, she writes yoga-related content and teaches online yoga for the international website, is working on her fourth novel, and teaches yoga locally and abroad.

In 2016, Claire fulfilled a lifelong dream when she signed a three-book deal for her first series, Finding Forever in Laguna. The first two books launched in 2017 and the third releases in Spring 2018. Yes, these are kissing books. Working with her literary editor taught her the importance of honest, yet compassionate communication during the manuscript revision process. She loves helping students create their best work.

When Claire isn’t writing, teaching, or editing, you can find her walking the beach with her husband and dog Josie, practicing yoga, drinking wine, and enjoying live music.
